Aluminum gravity casting, also called gravity die casting or permanent mold casting, is a metal casting process in which molten aluminum is poured into a reusable metal mold using gravity alone.
Unlike high-pressure die casting, the molten aluminum fills the mold cavity naturally without external pressure. After solidification, the aluminum casting is removed from the mold and may undergo further machining or finishing processes.
Aluminum Gravity Casting Process
The aluminum gravity casting process usually includes several steps.
- Mold preparation – the metal mold is cleaned and preheated.
- Aluminum melting – aluminum alloy is melted in the furnace.
- Pouring – molten aluminum flows into the metal mold using gravity.
- Solidification – the metal cools and forms the casting.
- Removal and finishing – the casting is removed from the mold and trimmed or machined if required.
