This project involved the custom manufacture of K1035 steel rear differential housings for a Land Cruiser automotive aftermarket application in Australia. The component was produced according to the customer’s approved drawing and part specification, with a batch quantity of 20 pieces.
The housing is used in a rear drivetrain assembly for Land Cruiser vehicle maintenance and replacement applications. Its complex external ribs, mounting features and large internal opening required a casting process that could provide stable shape reproduction and improved surface quality.

Silica Sol Investment Casting for Improved Surface Quality
The original production route used water glass investment casting. For this order, we changed the process to silica sol investment casting to achieve a cleaner casting surface and better overall casting quality.
Silica sol casting is suitable for steel parts with detailed geometry and higher surface requirements. The process includes wax pattern production, ceramic shell building, dewaxing, steel pouring, shell removal, cutting, grinding and final inspection. Learn more about the process difference in our water glass casting vs. silica sol casting guide.
Material and Part Information
- Part: Land Cruiser rear differential housing
- Model: END21-01-04-01-A12
- Material: K1035 steel
- Application: Automotive aftermarket and 4WD drivetrain maintenance
- Quantity: 20 pieces
We manufacture custom steel castings according to customer drawings, samples and application requirements. For parts requiring a suitable balance of geometry, surface finish, tolerance and production cost, our team can evaluate whether investment casting or another process is more appropriate. See our comparison of investment casting and sand casting for more details.
Inspection and Export Packing
After casting and finishing, the housings were visually checked before packing. The completed 20-piece order was packed in one plywood case for export shipment to Australia. The final packing data was 700 kg net weight and 780 kg gross weight, with a packing size of 1200 × 1000 × 810 mm.
Custom Automotive Steel Casting Manufacturing
This project demonstrates our capability to manufacture custom steel automotive castings for aftermarket and replacement applications. From process selection and casting production to inspection and export packing, we manufacture components based on confirmed technical requirements rather than offering standard off-the-shelf parts.
