Rear Axle Housing Produced by Vacuum Molding / Lost Foam Casting
The rear axle housing was produced using a vacuum molding / lost foam casting process suitable for medium-to-large cast iron and cast steel components with complex structures.
A foam pattern is prepared according to the final component geometry and placed inside dry molding sand. Vacuum is applied to stabilize the mold during pouring, while the foam pattern decomposes and is replaced by molten metal.
This process can reduce the need for traditional parting surfaces and is suitable for large automotive castings requiring stable shape reproduction, controlled dimensions, and subsequent heat treatment or CNC machining.
