Custom ASTM F436 Hardened Washer

This project involved the manufacture of custom hardened industrial washers for a customer in Australia. The washers were produced according to the customer’s dimensional, marking, hardness, and ASTM F436-related technical requirements.

The parts were formed from 45# steel, also commonly referenced as AISI 1045 medium-carbon steel, and then heat treated to achieve the confirmed hardness range of 38–45 HRC.

The washers were designed for use with high-strength bolted connections in industrial and structural assemblies. Consistent outside diameter, inside diameter, thickness, flatness, hardness, and surface marking were important for repeat batch production.

Finished Washer and Surface Marking

The finished washers were checked for overall appearance, edge condition, surface marking, and batch identification after forming and heat treatment.

Material

The washers were manufactured from 45# medium-carbon steel, commonly referenced as AISI 1045 steel.

The selected material and heat-treatment process were confirmed according to the customer’s drawing, hardness requirement, washer dimensions, and intended bolted-connection application.

Customization

The customer required customized identification marks on the washer surface, including the company website, logo, and production batch code.

For this order, the “WH” marking was used as the confirmed batch identification. The marking content, position, depth, and appearance were produced according to the customer’s approved requirements.

According to the customer’s coding system, “W” represented the production year 2023 and “H” represented October.

Heat Treatment and Hardness Requirement

After forming, the washers were heat treated to achieve the customer’s confirmed hardness requirement of 38–45 HRC.

Heat-treatment parameters and final hardness had to be controlled consistently across the production batch. Hardness testing and related quality documentation should be completed according to the agreed inspection requirements before shipment.

Dimensional and Quality Inspection

The washers were inspected according to the approved drawing and order requirements. Key inspection items included outside diameter, inside diameter, thickness, flatness, edge condition, surface marking, and final hardness.

Material certificates, hardness records, dimensional reports, or other supporting documents can be prepared according to the customer’s confirmed quality requirements.

Custom Industrial Washers and Fastening Components

Industrial washer projects often require coordination between material selection, forming, machining, heat treatment, marking, dimensional inspection, and batch traceability.

Project Result

The completed industrial washers met the customer’s confirmed dimensional, hardness, marking, and appearance requirements. The customized website, logo, and batch identification were applied according to the approved design.

This project demonstrates our ability to coordinate washer forming, heat treatment, surface marking, quality inspection, and repeat production for customized industrial fastening components.
