A PTFE gasket is a sealing component made from polytetrafluoroethylene, widely used in chemical and industrial sealing applications.

What Is a PTFE Gasket?

A PTFE gasket is a sealing component manufactured from polytetrafluoroethylene. Depending on the application, PTFE may be used for flat gaskets, sealing rings, valve seats, V-shaped seals, piston rings, and other customized sealing components.

These parts can be machined or cut from PTFE sheets, rods, or tubes according to the required dimensions, profile, thickness, and sealing conditions.

Operating Conditions and Seal Selection

The suitability of a PTFE gasket depends on the operating temperature, pressure, chemical medium, flange design, surface condition, bolt load, gasket thickness, and whether the application involves static or dynamic sealing.

PTFE offers excellent chemical resistance and low friction, but it may creep or deform under sustained load. Filled PTFE, expanded PTFE, reinforced structures, or alternative gasket materials may therefore be selected for applications involving higher pressure, temperature, or mechanical load.

The gasket material and construction should always be confirmed according to the actual equipment design and service conditions.

Properties of PTFE Gasket

PTFE provides broad chemical resistance, low friction, electrical insulation, weather resistance, and useful performance across a wide temperature range.

It is resistant to many acids, alkalis, solvents, and corrosive media, although compatibility must still be checked for the exact chemical concentration, temperature, pressure, and operating conditions.
