This project involved the manufacturing of custom bronze valve stem lower retainer nuts for an industrial maintenance application in Panama. The component had been produced by us before, and the customer was satisfied with the previous batch quality. Based on the repeat requirement, we manufactured the new batch according to the supplied drawing and carried out dimensional inspection before delivery.
Project Background
The part is a bronze retainer nut used in a valve stem assembly. Because the component includes a large internal thread, a stepped outer profile, machined grooves, radius transitions, and chamfered areas, both casting quality and machining accuracy were important for final assembly.
For this project, we selected copper, brass and bronze material solutions suitable for wear-resistant valve components. The specified material was ASTM B584 UNS C92200 bronze, which offers good strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability for industrial valve and marine-related applications.
Manufacturing Process
The bronze blanks were produced by centrifugal casting, followed by CNC machining and internal thread cutting. Centrifugal casting helps produce dense bronze structures and is commonly used for cylindrical or ring-shaped copper alloy components that require reliable material integrity.
After casting, the parts were machined to the required external profile. The internal thread was then processed according to the drawing requirement, and the outer diameter, overall height, groove positions, wall thickness, chamfers, and radius-related areas were checked during inspection.

Dimensional Inspection Photos
During production, each key dimension was checked against the drawing, including the internal thread, outer diameter, overall height, groove width, step dimensions, and chamfered areas.

Material and Quality Control
The material used for this component was ASTM B584 UNS C92200 bronze. According to the material certificate, the chemical composition and mechanical properties were checked against the required standard, including copper, tin, lead, and zinc content, as well as tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation.
Dimensional inspection was performed according to the drawing positions. Each key position on the drawing was checked and recorded, including internal thread size, outside diameter, total length, groove dimensions, chamfer dimensions, and other critical machined features. The inspection photos were taken position by position to support traceability and customer confirmation.
Inspection Points
The inspection covered the main functional and assembly dimensions of the bronze retainer nut, including:
- Internal threaded hole and thread pitch
- Outer diameter and main cylindrical profile
- Overall length and stepped height dimensions
- Machined groove width and position
- Chamfers, radii, and transition areas
- General appearance after CNC machining
Project Result
The finished bronze retainer nuts were manufactured according to the customer’s drawing and passed dimensional and material inspection. Since this was a repeat production based on a previous successful batch, the project also helped maintain stable replacement part supply for the customer’s valve maintenance work in Panama.
YT Casting manufactures custom bronze, brass, and copper alloy components by casting, CNC machining, thread machining, and inspection according to customer drawings. We can also support repeat orders where stable dimensions, material compliance, and traceable inspection records are required.
