She works with global customers on precision casting parts, hydraulic valve components, plastic injection products, and PVC or rubber extrusion parts used in industrial machinery and equipment.

Compared with traditional casting methods, lost wax casting allows manufacturers to produce highly detailed parts with minimal machining, making it ideal for complex metal components.

What Is Lost Wax Casting Steel

Lost wax casting steel refers to steel parts manufactured using the investment casting process. In this process, a wax pattern is first created to replicate the final product. The wax model is then coated with ceramic slurry to form a strong shell mold.

Once the ceramic shell is hardened, the wax inside is melted and removed, leaving a cavity that exactly matches the shape of the part. Molten steel is then poured into the mold. After cooling and solidification, the ceramic shell is broken away to reveal the finished casting.

Lost Wax Casting Steel Process

The steel investment casting process generally includes the following steps:

Wax pattern manufacturing

Pattern assembly and gating system creation

Ceramic shell building through repeated dipping and drying

Wax removal (dewaxing)

Preheating of ceramic mold

Molten steel pouring

Cooling and solidification

Shell removal and finishing

This process allows the production of complex steel components with high dimensional accuracy and excellent surface finish.

Advantages of Lost Wax Casting Steel

Lost wax casting offers several advantages compared with other metal casting processes.

High dimensional accuracy

Excellent surface finish

Ability to produce complex geometries

Reduced machining requirements

Suitable for a wide range of steel alloys

Typical Applications of Lost Wax Casting Steel

Steel investment castings are widely used in many industrial applications.

Common applications include:

Hydraulic valve components

Pump and valve bodies

Automotive parts

Oil and gas equipment

Machinery and engineering components

For example, hydraulic valve bodies often require high precision and strong mechanical properties, which makes lost wax casting an ideal manufacturing method.

Lost Wax Casting vs Sand Casting

Lost wax casting and sand casting are two common metal casting methods. However, they serve different manufacturing needs.

Lost wax casting provides better surface finish and higher dimensional accuracy, while sand casting is more suitable for large parts and lower production costs.

Steel Investment Casting Materials

Lost wax casting can be used for many types of steel materials, including:

  • Carbon steel
  • Alloy steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Heat-resistant steel

Different steel materials can be selected depending on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance required by the application.
