Sand Casting is also called sand mould casting.

It is a metal casting process characterized by using sand as the mould material. The word “sand casting” can also refer to an item produced by the sand casting process. Sand castings are produced in specialized factories called foundries. Yutung foundry is one of them.

Yutung sand casting foundry produces all kinds of grey and ductile iron casting parts and owns a staff of about 120 persons. Among them, there are 12 technical persons and eight inspection persons. We also worked with the Beijing University of science and technology and Japan concerned foundry association to resolve the challenging technical problems. Our foundry covers an area of over 50,000 square meters. Two hours drive from Shanghai.

The company owns resin sand self-hardening, clay sand, and machining workshops. Among them, the production capacity of the resin sand self-hardening sand workshop is 12,000 tons of qualified castings per year, the clay sand workshop produces 3,000 tons of qualified castings each year, and the machining workshop has a machining capacity of 15,000 standard working hours.

Our company is in a leading position in high-strength cast iron, high-strength, ductile iron and low-alloy wear-resistant cast iron.

The main products include machinery casting parts, various pump and valve castings, motor and power system castings, construction machinery parts, and automobile spare parts.

Products are exported abroad such as Europe, America, Japan, and world-famous companies such as KOHLER and FEDERAL.SIGNAL, WATERMAN, Japan: HITACHI, FUJI, Sumitomo Electric (Japan) SUMITOMO), Naniwa Pump (NANIWA); Germany: Siemens, DUCTING, ROLEC; we also work with India WIPRO based on long-term cooperation. The company’s sand casting products are high quality and trusted by customers.

The basic process of our sand mould casting:

  •  Place a pattern in the sand to create a mould;
  • Incorporate the pattern and sand in a gating pouring system.;
  • Remove the pattern;
  • Fill the mould cavity with a molten metal material;
  • Let the metal cool down;
  • Break the sand mould and remove the casting.
  • The sand casting process is produced by pouring liquid metal into a mould cavity. To succeed in casting, the mould cavity must retain its shape until the metal has cooled and fully solidified. If only pure sand breaks apart easily, but moulding sand contains bonding material that increases its ability to resist heat and hold the shape.

Sand mould casting produces various metal items with complex geometries(size and shape). These parts can vary significantly in weight and size, ranging from a few kilograms to several tons. Some smaller sand casting mould parts include items like gears, pulleys, crankshafts, connecting rods, and propellers. Larger applications include housings for large equipment and heavy machine bases. Sand casting is also typical in producing automobile components, such as engine blocks, knuckles, housing, engine manifolds, cylinder heads, transmission cases etc.

Moulding sand has three crucial advantages compared with other mould materials:

  • It is not so expensive,
  • It is easily recycled, and
  • It can withstand extremely high temperatures.

Metal Sand casting is one of the few available processes for metal with high melting temperatures, such as iron, steel, nickel, and titanium. What we make in the Yutung foundry is grey iron, ductile iron etc. Because of its flexibility, heat resistance, and relatively low costs, sand casting is the most widely used casting process. About 70% of casting parts are made by this sand casting mould process.
